Team Spotlight: Ori Seri

The #LifeatTorq Team Spotlight is a Q&A series dedicated to the talented and generally kick-ass team that form the foundation of our growing company.

Today we are spotlighting Ori Seri,  an R&D team leader at Torq, based in our Tel Aviv office.

Tell us a bit about your career path before Torq.

Ori: I was an officer in an Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) Intelligence unit early on. Then I worked at a startup called Nuweba, where I began as an engineer, and later led an R&D team there.

Why did you come to work at Torq? What makes you excited about working here?

Ori: I came to Torq mainly because of the people and the business leads. All the employees here are super professional and fun to work with. The senior management leads the product and the business in a way that fascinates me.  I learn something new every day.

What’s the coolest thing you and your team are working on at Torq? ‍‍

Ori: We are creating the content in the product! It’s super exciting because at the end of the day, this is what the majority of users will use in the product. We can have the fanciest UI and the most scalable backend, but if we don’t have the right content, where’s the value?

What advice can you offer to someone looking to take on a role like yours?

Ori: Be ready to work hard, be open minded and always try to envision new ways you can innovate and automate.

Ok, now for the fun part! Tell us a little about yourself. When you log on in the morning, what do you do first?

Ori: I check Slack and email, and of course, I review my team’s Jira dashboard.

What helps you focus?

Ori: I have my own “focus music” that I listen to with my noise cancellation headphones. I prepared a playlist in Spotify which I edit from time to time. Check it out here.

What are your hobbies outside of work?

Ori: I did a pastry chef course in a culinary school called Danon. It was an amazing experience. I really enjoy both baking and cooking.

As a member of Coffee Lovers Slack channel at Torq, how do you drink your coffee?

Ori: I LOVE coffee. I was amazed when we got our fancy coffee machine. My favorite coffee of course is a good cup of cappuccino .

How do you spend your weekends?

Ori: Hanging with friends, playing with my XBOX, baking.

What’s the last great series you watched?

Ori: Vikings, though the first 3 seasons are much better than the rest in my opinion.
