Team Spotlight: Moshe Beladev
The #LifeatTorq Team Spotlight is a Q&A series dedicated to the talented and generally kick-ass team that form the foundation of our growing company.
Tell us a bit about your career path before Torq.
I worked for the Israeli Air Force in several development positions for a few years. Later on, I took part in the founding team of a serverless security startup called Nuweba where I was a Platform team leader working mainly on docker internals and Kubernetes. In between positions, I worked as a freelancer on a variety of projects and founded Accelerators-Israel, a platform that connects entrepreneurs and acceleration programs here in Israel.
Why did you come to work at Torq? What makes you excited about working here?
Two friends of mine have been working at Torq and recommended I join, they told me all about the great atmosphere and unique organizational culture. It didn’t take me long to realize they were right! The people here are professional and fun to be around, that’s a combination that’s hard to find and makes the day-to-day work life really amazing.
What’s the coolest thing you and your team are working on at Torq?
We do a lot of cool stuff. The most recent one was research we did about improving our workflow runtime in order to achieve a better user experience while running workflows. It resulted in a setup of FaaS orchestration infrastructure that posed some cool challenges in terms of security, multi-tenancy, monitoring, and reliability.
What advice can you offer to someone looking to take on a role like yours?
Make sure the company culture suits you and surround yourself with people you enjoy being around. We work really hard, and face many challenges, having the right atmosphere helps to overcome these challenges with a big smile.
Ok, now for the fun part! Tell us a little about yourself: When you log on in the morning, what do you do first?
Hi-five tour in the office, checking my Slack, email and personal Trello board to define my main goals for the day.
What helps you focus?
I listen to music while I work and that helps me focus. Also, when I need to clean my head I sometimes take a coffee break or play a quick foosball game with my friends – it always refreshes my mind and helps me focus.
What are your hobbies outside of work?
It changes from time to time. Recently I started cooking and learning French with Duolingo.
As a Coffee Lover at Torq, how do you drink your coffee?
Actually, my wife’s family has a boutique coffee roasting factory & coffee-house called Portofino. I’m not objective, but their cappuccino is my favorite.
How do you spend your weekends?
Mostly with friends and family. On sunny days I love going to the beach with my dog Pai. Also, my wife Shani (who’s the best cook ever) and I love to have friends over for dinner.
What’s the best series you watched recently?
Recently I re-watched ‘Friends’ from start to finish (!), it was even better than I remembered.
